Join us on Wednesday, February 25, 2026, at 12:00 p.m. at Honolulu Hale for the public reveal of the new Wahi Pana Handi-Van during E Hoʻolaulā i ka ʻŌlelo.

This free community event celebrates ʻōlelo Hawaiʻi through storytelling, public art, youth performances, and the debut of the Handi-Van vehicle wrap by artist Cory Kamehanaokalā Holt Taum.

Morning Huakaʻi: Wahi Pana Storytelling

The day begins with a journey through the Wahi Pana: Storied Places art installations, featuring storytelling in ʻōlelo Hawaiʻi led by Kauwila Mahi and Kaʻiminaʻauao Kahikina.

  • 9:30 AM – 10:00 AM: Storytelling at the Nā Lehua Heleleʻi installation by Rocky Jensen, located at Fort DeRussy.
  • 10:30 AM – 11:30 AM: Storytelling at the Kūʻenaʻena installation by Koloikeao Anthony, located at Kapiʻolani Park.

Midday Celebration: Honolulu Hale Performances & Wahi Pana Handi-Van Unveiling

From 12:00 PM to 1:30 PM, the celebration moves to Honolulu Hale for cultural performances and a special presentation of the City’s newest public art project.

The program includes:

  • Opening Remarks: Welcoming by MOCA Executive Director Jennifer Santos and Mayor Rick Blangiardi.
  • Wahi Pana Handi-Van Presentation: Director of Transit Jon Nouchi will unveil the newest Handi-Van vehicle wrap by artist Cory Kamehanaokalā Holt Taum. The design is inspired by the storied travels of Hiʻiakaikapoliopele, previously featured in the Wahi Pana TheBus design.
  • Student Performances: Feature presentations of Oli, Mele, Hula, and Haʻiʻōlelo by students from:
    • Pūnana Leo o Mānoa (Preschool)
    • Hālau Kū Māna (Grades 6-12)
    • Ke Kula Kaiapuni ʻo Ānuenue (K-12)

The Honolulu Hale program will conclude with a closing mahalo and a light reception with refreshments. This event is free and open to the public.
